My Plan Companion

Privacy Policy

Draft for legal review — last updated August 23, 2026

1. Information You Provide

To use My Plan Companion, you may provide:

  • Account and profile information (such as your name and email)
  • Preparedness information you choose to enter
  • Information about family members, dependents, and pets
  • Wishes, instructions, and preferences
  • Trusted Contact information (names and email addresses for invitations)
  • Document metadata and any documents you choose to upload
  • Support and refund request information
  • Recovery information you choose to set up

My Plan Companion specifically warns users not to store Social Security numbers, account numbers, passwords, PINs, or recovery phrases. We do not request these and ask that you do not enter them.

2. How Information Is Used

We use the information you provide to:

  • Provide the planning and organization service
  • Save and update your plan
  • Generate preparedness views and roadmaps
  • Enable Trusted Contact sharing when you choose it
  • Operate Legacy Access and recovery features
  • Process purchases and refund requests
  • Send security notifications (such as Legacy Access alerts)
  • Maintain and improve the service and its security

3. Sharing

My Plan Companion does not make your plan public. Your plan is private to you unless and until you choose to share it.

You decide which Trusted Contacts can see which parts of your plan. Within each shared category, you choose whether a contact has:

  • Summary access — a condensed overview of the shared information
  • Detailed access — the full saved information within the shared categories

Documents require explicit authorized access. Sharing a category does not automatically share your uploaded documents. Because you deliberately share information with Trusted Contacts, your information is not "never shared" — it is shared only when and how you choose.

4. Document Security

  • Documents uploaded to eligible plans are stored in private storage.
  • Access to documents is checked each time a request is made.
  • When authorized access is granted, temporary access links are used rather than permanent public links.
  • Access links expire and are not reusable indefinitely.

We do not publish implementation details that could weaken document security.

5. Payment Information

Payment processing is handled through Stripe, a third-party payment provider. My Plan Companion does not store your full card numbers. Stripe handles the secure processing of your payment. Your purchase and refund history is retained by My Plan Companion for account and support purposes.

6. Email

We may send transactional emails for:

  • Trusted Contact invitations
  • Recovery email verification
  • Security notifications (such as Legacy Access activity)
  • Account and service communications

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to protect your account credentials, Legacy Key, and Recovery Code.

8. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, maintain security, and based on your account status. We do not specify a fixed retention period because retention depends on the type of information, how you use the service, and applicable legal requirements. If you have specific questions about data retention, support contact information will be provided through MyPlanCompanion.com.

9. Your Choices

You have the following controls:

  • Edit your plan information at any time
  • Change or revoke Trusted Contact access
  • Delete documents you have uploaded where supported
  • Manage your Legacy Access settings
  • Manage sharing categories and access levels for each Trusted Contact

10. Children's Information

My Plan Companion is intended for adult users. Dependent and child information may be entered by an adult account holder as part of family preparedness. Minors do not create independent accounts. If you believe a minor has created an account without adult supervision, please contact us so we can investigate.

11. Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "last updated" date and provide reasonable notice where appropriate. Your continued use of My Plan Companion after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact

Support contact information will be provided through MyPlanCompanion.com.
